Sprouts Farmers Market to open in Clovis

The Fresno Bee — May 19, 2015

Clovis is getting a Sprouts Farmers Market.

The grocery is coming next year to the Trading Post Shopping Center at Clovis and Herndon avenues, along with a Ross Dress for Less and Skechers stores and Pieology Pizzeria.

Sprouts will take over 30,000 square feet of the Save Mart store that closed in 2007, said Chris Shane, Gryphon Capital managing partner.

The new tenants, and future ones still in the works, are part of efforts by the center’s new owner to revamp the corner and fill up empty spaces. The sale of the center to a partnership between Gryphon Capital and Rich Development was finalized in April.

Sprouts is a specialty grocery store with emphasis on natural and organic food. The full-line grocery store has meat, dairy, deli, seafood and vitamin sections and an extensive bulk section. Fresno got its first Sprouts on North Blackstone Avenue in 2013.

Skechers is a shoe store selling mostly sneakers, and Pielogy is a restaurant chain that serves individual-sized, customizable pizzas.

The Ross at the Trading Post will take over a CVS that left the corner months ago when it moved to the corner of Sunnyside and Herndon avenues.

The businesses that have signed leases so far are scheduled to open in the first three months of 2016.

Expect to see more new businesses and other changes, too. Shane says the architecture of the center will remain the same, but it will be cleaned up and have new landscaping and paint.

“We’re going to have some great common areas that have outdoor seating,” Shane said. “It will be a much more pleasant experience.”

Despite being on a busy intersection, the former Save Mart store sat empty for years. The situation was complicated by Save Mart, which was unwilling to relinquish its lease and had a say in prospective tenants. The new owners don’t face that challenge.

“It’s been quiet for way too long,” Shane said.
