Eureka! restaurant is about to open its first Clovis location.

The regional chain eatery opens at 11 a.m. Monday with a large patio that many people who frequent the shopping center didn’t know existed.

Eureka! is in The Trading Post shopping center (the same center as Sprouts) at the southeast corner of Herndon and Clovis avenues.

The restaurant is known for burgers, beer, cocktails, whiskey and more. It’s had a location in Fresno, at Palm and Nees avenues, since 2010.

The Clovis location is one of the smallest in the chain, but it has the largest patio, said Eureka! founder Paul Frederick, who grew up in Fresno.

Outdoor Dining

The spot used to be Pokiland before it closed in 2022. The patio is barely visible from the parking lot.

“We’re stuck in the corner next to the Dollar Tree. It’s a little mysterious and misleading,” Frederick said. “We didn’t do anything to the exterior, but when you get in it, its beautiful.”

The patio looks drastically different than before, a large olive tree imported into the middle. Shade cloth covers the outdoor space and it’s adorned with string lights and a water feature. Planters and plants have been added all around the space.

“We invested a lot more than we thought it would cost,” he said. If parking fills up, Frederick notes customers can park in back and access the restaurant from the patio area.

Fresno Founder

Frederick grew up in the Fig Garden neighborhood in Fresno. He attended San Joaquin Memorial his freshman year before transferring to boarding school.

He comes home a lot, and noticed that the Clovis market was underserved for the type of restaurants he creates, especially ones with a full-service bar.

This will be the 30th Eureka! restaurant.

Most are in California, plus locations in Las Vegas, Seattle, Boise and Austin.

Although every Eureka! looks different — this one is more modern than others — they all have the same menu.

The Menu

The Fresno fig burger, made with fig marmalade, melted goat cheese and bacon, is on the menu at every location and is the No. 3 seller, Frederick said.

The cowboy burger (with shoestring onion rings, bacon and beer barbecue sauce), fish and chips, and the Napa chicken sandwich are also popular.

The location will carry several local beers. Although originally known for its beer selection, the restaurant is increasingly known for its cocktail menu, Frederick said.
